No Justice, No Peace: Joining Hands For Change

To MCC Pastors, leaders, congregations, and allies:

You are invited to attend a press conference celebrating the launch of NoWedge2012.com -- a campaign purposed to educate, inspire and motivate Black Americans and allies to be engaged in the 2012 election cycle. Specifically, this campaign will focus on educating voters on the strategy of organizations such as NOM which intentionally target African Americans in the interest of fracturing the progressive base on the single issue of marriage equality. Importantly, this divisive strategy seeks to appeal to voters conservative values on one issue while ignoring the broader platform of right wing policies such as:

  • The assault of voter ID laws in minority communities
  • Stand your ground laws, which negatively impact young Black men
  • The intent to repeal The Patient Protection and Affordable Care ACT
  • The Ryan Budget and its gutting of entitlement programs

This breakthrough campaign will also frame President Obama’s personal position on marriage equality as a call to fairness and justice guided by his faith and  political sensibilities not an attempt to legally impose his evolution on communities of faith. It is paramount that we all get the facts and are well informed as the media has made much noise about the Black communities resistance to gay rights framed as civil rights particularly within the dominant Black church

Date: Thursday, May 17th
Time: 10:00 AM
Place: Covenant Baptist Church, UCC, 3845 South Capitol Street, SE,
Washington, DC 20032

Additionally, we invite you to sign on to a NoWedge pledge - http://nowedge2012.com/. This is a pledge that we will stand in solidarity.

Immigration Equality
Immigration Equality is planning a number of initiatives to continue to build support for the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA), a bill which would end discrimination against LGBT immigrant families. To that end, we are looking for LGBT binational couples who are interested in reaching out to their elected officials to push for the passage of UAFA. We are specifically looking for couples in the following states: NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, and MD. If you know of a binational couple and they would be interested in participating in this work, please have them contact: Connie Utada (cutada@immigrationequality.org).

Marylanders for Marriage Equality - Maryland is now the 8th state in the nation, plus the District of Columbia, to enact  such groundbreaking legislation as marriage equality. Yet our work is still not done.  Learn about the upcoming campaign and what you can do to help ensure we protect marriage. Faithful voices will remain critical to protecting marriage equality as we go forward.

We know opponents of marriage are already working on efforts to repeal marriage equality. We remain committed to marriage equality as we were during the legislative efforts. Join us!
